Choose between the free tours lating 2-3 hours with volunteer guides, or a paid-for tour, eg. with Yorkwalk. For either of these, you just turn up at the appointed time, without booking. Yorkwalk general tours leave from the gates of Museum Gardens (Museum Street) at 10.30 am and 2.15pm. These last 1 1/2 to 2 hours and are themed (see below).

Specialist Tours

For example: Essential York, Roman York, Secret York, Snickelways. Yorkwalk tours meet daily as above and at 2.15pm. Details of tour schedules are on their website.
Ghost tours are generally in the evenings (see overview itinerary guide).
