Yama Sushi and Izakaya is a little Japanese gem in Portland’s Clinton neighborhood is rapidly gaining a reputation as the Rose City’s go-to sushi restaurant. Not only does it offer fresh, inventive sushi, ramen and izakaya fare, it takes reservations!
First look at the chalkboard to see what’s new and exciting. On my most recent visit, I enjoyed some premium, fatty toro. It also has an extensive saké and local beer selection. There are savory appetizers, including bacon-wrapped scallops and asparagus, and rolls with a sweet side, such as the Orange Blossom with tempura shrimp and local salmon, and its signature offering, the lobster-infused Yama Roll. The sushi shy have plenty to enjoy from bountiful bowls of ramen to Siracha-spiced fried chicken thighs.
