The overall experience at Winslow’s Tavern in Wellfleet — between the artfully presented dishes and the sublime summertime setting — is rather appealing.
Secure an outdoor patio table under the stars and overlooking the quiet town center. Or (avoid potential mosquitos and) head inside, into a quietly simple and casually elegant setting with well-spaced tables. Or head upstairs to the more casual bar. Or, if you are a larger party, inquire about dining beneath a flourishing grape arbor.
Be sure to order their killer “Summer in a Glass” cocktail — made with homemade fresh basil lemonade, vodka and triple sec. It’s dangerously refreshing.
Winslow’s prepares classic New England cuisine. Start with a thick lobster and saffron risotto cake or local mussels or oysters. Then go lighter with a stacked beet salad or a pear/apple/hazlenut/gorgonzola salad. The slowly move on to slow-oven-roasted Chatham cod, or an 8-oz Kobe burger with fries. Save room (as if you can!) for a key lime dessert.
The whole experience is surprisingly affordable.
