The Tasting Room at the Winery at Holy Cross Abbey is a fun stop after a day of rafting, hiking or visiting the Royal Gorge. (It’s also an easy drive from Colorado Springs.) The Winery at Holy Cross Abbey boasts several gold medal wines in recent years, including a Double Gold 2014 Monterey Chardonnay and a Gold Medal 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve.c.
While the Benedictine Fathers who created the winery and made wine as far back at the 1920s, aren’t involved anymore, the current owners and vintners have created a medley of multi-award-winning wines. The grapes are brought here from many different vineyards from as far away as California and as close as Palisades, Colorado.
Most of the tastings are complimentary, while the reserve wines cost $1 to taste. The grounds of this historic abbey are lovely. For a relaxed experience, book the $25 a person VIP experience, which includes a private wine and cheese tasting on the terrace or in the park.
The Tasting Room is open daily. The VIP experience must be booked 24-hours in advance and is available April to October.
