The pirate ship Whydah sank in a storm off Cape Cod in 1717, and Expedition Whydah trolled the ocean floor looking for its booty. Along the way, the Expedition recovered goods from more than 50 other ships that sank back in the day. A trove of these goods are on display at the Pirate Museum in West Yarmouth, as well as parts of the ship and personal belongings of pirates, such as clothing, weapons, and jewelry.
Visitors learn how the treasure is hauled ashore and restored, and what the life of a pirate was really like. It’s a fascinating glimpse into a swashbuckling history for all ages.
The Sea Lab & Learning Center is still located at 16 MacMillan Wharf, Provincetown.
