Wat Traimit

See the world's biggest seated gold Buddha

This Wat is famous for its golden Buddha statue, which happens to be the largest golden seated Buddha in the world, fifteen feet tall, and weighing 5.5 tons! The pure gold figure is worth millions of dollars, and it has made Wat Traimit a popular tourist draw, serving as the entry point into Bangkok’s Chinatown.

While the main reason to visit the temple is to check out the Buddha statue, there is also an extremely well done museum upstairs here that is dedicated to the history of the Thai Chinese community, with exhibits and 3D displays showing the origins of the Chinese arrival in Thailand, to the formation of the Thai Chinese community and its rise. The museum has a separate admission and is well worth checking out.
