The most popular temple visited by tourists to Bangkok other than Wat Phra Kaew in the Grand Palace, Wat Po is known as the Temple of the Reclining Buddha, it is famed for its 150 foot long giant reclining Buddha, which is completely covered in gold leaf. Thais make pilgrimages here to walk clockwise around the Buddha and drop coins into 108 bronze bowls that surround the image (108 is the number of perfect actions required by the Buddha to attain enlightenment). Just like the neighboring Grand Palace, proper attire is required here, no shorts, singlets, or revealing clothing.
Wat Po is also highly noted for its massage school, and you’ll see signs for “Wat Po trained” at many small massage shops all over Bangkok. You can get massages on the grounds at the school here, and they are the perfect break from all the temple touring and heat that you’ve been enduring all day.
