Waimea Bay, on O‘ahu’s North Shore, is like two different places, depending upon the time of year. In the summer you can swim, snorkel and dive in calm, clear water. However in the winter, the Bay is home to some of Hawai‘i’s biggest surf. Regardless of the time of year, it is a spectacular place and well worth a stop.
The park has lifeguards, restrooms, picnic sites and parking. The lot tends to fill up quickly so it might be a good idea to get there in the early morning or late afternoon.
Note: If a surf contest is being held – such as the Quiksilver Eddie Aikau – you’ll be lucky if you find parking within a mile or two of this wonderful beach.
