Vinarija Vukas

Perched high on a hill, overlooking the Ponikve countryside, the Vukas family has been in the wine business for over 60 years, with the first vines planted in 1950.
Still a small winery, the Plavac Mali and Marastina vines produce a low yield of about 1,000 liters a year.

The two brothers went professional in 2003, when for the first time in the winery’s history they hired professional help to take in the harvest.

The creme-de-la-creme of Vukas production is Plerej Grand Cru, for which Vukas wait until as late in the season as they possibly can to pick as many dry grapes, adding to the sugar content of the finished product. Another goodie – also a red made from the Plavac Mali variety is Mato.

For a small cellar, the prices start at around €4. You can also purchase olive oil, the difference being that this oil has an organic certification.
