A family business of three generations, Toreta lies just below the main street that leads through Smokvica.
Young Frano runs the place now, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, but it wasn’t always the case. When Frano finished school, he wanted to get as far away from the family business as possible – he studied electro-engineering and landed a job as an electro technician, working for five years before the vines started to call. Now he says that wine-making is firstly his love, second his hobby and lastly, his job.
Toreta produce on average about 30,000 litres a year selling to the local market and the United States. Posip is the main product along with Rosé, although Rukatac is good too. Toreta’s herbal brandies and liqueurs are superb.
There’s a display of wine-pressing equipment that Frano’s grandfather used, and various farming implements from around Korcula in the degustation room.
