If you’re walking along U St. near 14th St. of an evening and chance to hear some jazz beats emanating from somewhere above you, follow that sound! Since 2000, Twins Jazz has been serving up live jazz from its second floor roost in this intimate U Street club. Twins has actually been around since 1987, though in a different location.
If you know anything about the genre, you’ll recognize some of the names that play here: the Michael Thomas Quintet, saxophonist Anthony Nelson, vocalist Irene Jalenti. But familiarity is not necessary for appreciation. Pay the cover charge to the man standing at the street-level entrance, then climb the stairs and take a seat. It’s a DC treat.
Sunday through Thursday shows start at 8pm, sometimes followed by a second show at 10pm; weekends, the music starts at 9pm, with a second act beginning promptly at 11pm.
Metro: U St.-African American Civil War Memorial/Cardozo on the Yellow and Green Lines. 13th St. exit.
