The Trapp Family Lodge in Vermont is the quintessential Vermont destination, with great food, beer brewed on site and all kinds of options for outdoor activities. Said to have settled in Vermont because it reminded them of their native Austria, the von Trapp family, of The Sound of Music fame, has been running the lodge since 1942.
Set on roughly 2,500 acres in Stowe, Vermont, the accommodations include 96 rooms and suites in the main lodge, 18 villas, and 100 guest house chalets. There are four onsite dining options: the Dining Room, The Lounge, the Bakery and the recently opened Bierhall. They brew their own European-inspired beer onsite, and offer traditional Austrian food like schnitzel and pastries.
For outdoor lovers there’s no shortage of options, including cross-country skiing, mountain biking and hiking. You can rent seasonal appropriate gear at their outdoor center. They also offer tours of the hotel, great for those interested in learning about the family history, or you can take a carriage ride to see more of the property.
