Wyatt Earp, his brothers, and Doc Holliday put Tombstone on the map when they took on the Cowboys at the OK Corral. Start by visiting the site of the actual 30-second gunfight. Then, watch a reenactment on the nearby stage. The show provides historical context for what happened on October 26, 1881.
After the show, drop in the Bird Cage Theater Museum or historic Tombstone Courthouse. The nearby Rose Tree Museum features the world’s largest rose tree. Before you leave, pay your respects at Boot Hill. It is a real cemetery, and the three Cowboys who died at the OK Corral are buried there.
If you have the time, drive another half hour south on AZ 80 to Bisbee. The copper mining town has art galleries and studios as well as the Bisbee Mining and Historical Museum and the Queen Mine Tour.
