You won’t find much friendlier folks than the Nelsons, who run Thunder Valley Inn. A B&B just outside the downtown Dells, the inn/farm features a variety of simple, homey lodging in several buildings.

• The 150-year-old farmhouse has six bedrooms, each with a private bath. Guests have access to a family room (with piano), dining room and kitchen, plus a video library. The home has central air. If you have girls, you can book the sweetest pink bedroom with twin beds along with one of two adjoining rooms. Fun Fact: Civil War-era newspapers were found under layers of wallpaper in the home.
• The Svenska Hus (Swedish House) has three rooms, two of which are suites.
• The Wee Hus is for one couple. Bonus: You can bring your pet.
