Many people have been to haunted houses, full of dangling spiders and dressed up ghouls. New Orleans, however, is home to a rare, real haunted house. The Mortuary is a Victorian mansion built in 1872. After serving as a home for 60 years it was converted into a funeral home and morgue in the 1930’s. Following Hurricane Katrina the building, long vacant and decaying, became home to the area’s most famous haunted attraction. Paranormal enthusiasts from all over have come to verify the spirits residing here. The owners, however, have added effects of their own and each year around Halloween the building comes “alive” with special effects and a host of theatrical sets. The rest of the year one can visit the escape rooms housed within. There are five different choices with themes such as Serial Killer’s Lair or Embalming Room Zombie Escape. Teams of guests look for clues, solve mysteries and try to escape the room in 60 minutes. The Mortuary is not for the faint of heart. Come visit for a chilling good time.
