Oklahomans have excelled in every sport and their achievements are lauded in this museum. Baseball players include eleven Hall of Famers, recognized in the Territorial Capital Sports Museum. Current players like Matt Holliday and managers including Robin Ventura are represented here, too. Check out the collection of autographed baseballs from MLB ump, George Barr of Tulsa.
Football? You bet! College football is practically a religion in the state and praises are definitely being sung in this collection. The pros aren’t forgotten either.
Other sports include basketball, golf, rodeo and Olympic competition. Check out the special exhibit on women in sports – and don’t miss the salute to outstanding sportscasters like former Dodger voice Ross Porter.
Three Halls of Fame are housed here – the Oklahoma High School Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame, the Women’s Oklahoma Golf Association Hall of Fame and the American Indian Athletic Hall of Fame’s Oklahoma Inductees. Names here include Jim Thorpe, Allie Reynolds and Andy Payne.
Admission to the Sports Museum is free but a donation is requested.
