Modern Theatre in Madrid

Named after the actress María Guerrero (1867-1928), this is one of Madrid’s important 19th century theaters.

The theatre opened in 1885 and performed the popular pieces of the era, of Jacinto Benavente, Valle-Inclán, and Benito Pérez Galdós, among others.

Like other theaters in the city, during the Civil War it remained inactive and closed. The theater’s doors opened again in 1940.

It is worth taking in a show for anyone interested in Literary Madrid and as an alternative or additional theatrical venue to the Teatro Español.
