Sydney Observatory in The Rocks is Australia’s oldest existing observatory.

You’ll have to pay if you want to look through the telescope or take a night time tour, but during the day admission is free for you to explore the beautiful garden and wander through the old observatory building to check out the exhibits, including one on the Transit of Venus, the event that led Captain Cook to Australia.

Night visits must be booked ahead.
