Once a highlight of Captiva’s dining experiences, it has proven disappointing on our last two visits. OK, someone has to say it: Ever since one owner has taken over the bulk of “downtown” Captiva’s restaurants, lack of competition and control have lowered the overall dining standards here in recent years.
So why go to Sunshine? Its menu still shows promise with Continental standards such as red snapper picatta and grilled rack of lamb with mint jelly.
It touts its paella as “world famous,” so it’s possible my two last bad experiences were flukes. I’ve always enjoyed sitting out on the porch and watching the Captiva world go by, but it really could use a good cleaning these days.
