Built in 1931 and christened the Fox-Watson Theater, The Stiefel Theatre for the Performing Arts re-opened after a massive renovation that was completed in 2003. A gorgeous throwback to its Depression-era birth, this popular theater is again a beloved entertainment destination. Once the city’s premier movie house, ‘The Stiefel’ has featured diverse live performances such as Willie Nelson, and Loretta Lynn, ZZ Top, and Celtic Thunder. Steve Martin, George Carlin Peter Frampton and Jackson Browne have also performed here in recent years. All of this talent gravitating to Salina is a testament to the city’s central location and The Stiefel’s manageable venue size. Each year, this nonprofit theater’s gorgeous red velvet drapes, ornate balconies and plush seats also draw more than 30,000 audience members who enjoy a wide range of live performances and events
