Art inside 'the bathtub'

When visiting the Museum District, it is almost impossible to miss the impressive Stedelijk Museum. Whether you are more attracted to the red brick and white stone dressings or the recently renovated portion that has been nicknamed “The Bathtub”, it is well worth visiting.

Inside you will find a mix of modern and contemporary art — including photography, sculpture, furniture, and much more — with works dating from 1850 to the present. The museum has everything, from Picasso drawings to Rodin sculptures and many works in-between. The Dutch are also well represented with works by Mondrian, de Kooning, and Karel Appel. And while some of the art might not be to the younger generations’ taste, there are weekly workshops on offer.

If you are pressed for time and can’t visit in person, the museum’s collection is also visible online.
