One of the best reasons to take a mountain drive to Fairplay, especially if the kids with you, is to visit South Park City Museum. South Park City (which was the original name of Fairplay) is a well-done re-creation of an old mining town that portrays life from 1860 to the 1890’s.
You can walk through more than 40 refurbished buildings and structures. The drug store is filled with 1800’s medicines and has a soda fountain. The schoolhouse is an 1879 building moved from a nearby ghost town. There is a saloon, shops and a variety of artifacts that fascinate kids and adults alike.
