A man-made lagoon, complete with sandy beach and palm trees, is at the heart of this oasis beside the Brisbane River. South Bank Parklands provides a great day out for everyone, with 16ha covered with parks and playgrounds, restaurants and cafes, a few souvenir shops, street performers, and weekend markets.
Swim, stroll, and cycle the meandering pathways to discover everything. From the parklands it’s an easy walk to the museum, art gallery, and other parts of the Queensland Cultural Centre.
There’s a beautiful wooden Nepalese pagoda (a relic of Brisbane’s hosting of World Expo 88), or you can board the Wheel of Brisbane for a 13-minute ride in an air-conditioned gondola for a 360-degree view of Brisbane from 60 metres high.
The weekend South Bank Lifestyle Market is illuminated by fairy lights at night. The market is open Friday nights, and all day Saturday and Sunday (10am to 5pm).
South Bank Parklands are a 7-minute walk from the city centre. To get there, cross the Victoria Bridge at the end of the Queen Street Mall or walk across the Goodwill Bridge from the Gardens Point Road entrance to the Brisbane City Gardens. The parklands are open 24 hours.
