Snow Farm Vineyard, Vermont’s first commercial vineyard, occupies a beautiful stretch of land on southwestern part of South Hero Island on Lake Champlain. Their estate grows a variety of grapes, including Pinot Noir and Riesling, and they also make a unique ice wine. More than just a vineyard, Snow Farm offers walking trails on its property, and hosts events through the winter and summer.
On Friday evenings in the winter they hold the ‘Winter Wine Down Music Series,’ featuring live music, catered food, and of course, wine tastings. They also host free concerts every Thursday from June to September, a great opportunity to get outside, bring the family, enjoy some music, taste some wine, and grab a bite from the farm’s ‘’Sausage Shack’ (you can’t go wrong with a lobster roll.) Make sure to ask the hosts about the short walk up a nearby hill that affords great views of Lake Champlain and Mount Mansfield off in the distance.
Snow Farm is an easy drive from Burlington, or you can bike there via the Island Line Trail (just save some energy and take it easy on the wine tasting for the bike back!). Or if you want to stay over and explore the island more, check out their 1820’s era bed and breakfast.
