When you visit Poulsbo, no doubt you’ll enjoy strolling down Front Street. You’ll be drawn to the pastries in the window of Sluys’ Poulsbo Bakery.  Sluys’ (pronounced slies) is a small family owned bakery known for their pastries and Poulsbo Bread. All of the breads and pastries are handmade in small batches.

Their donuts are hand cut and personally fried, then glazed with Sluys’ Poulsbo Bakery’s unique glaze. They hand cut or drop their cookies then individually ice or decorate them.  Their pie dough and  are all rolled by hand.

Of course they are proud of their Poulsbo bread and you’ll want to take a loaf home. Sluys’ created the bread recipe and is the only bakery still producing it from scratch. It was one of the first multigrain breads on the market in 1974.  It is made with honey, millet, flax, wheat germ and sunflower seed. The formula was sold but they retain the rights to make it at the bakery.

There are plenty of benches along Front Street. Grab a pastry and coffee and enjoy the morning like the locals do.
