This Swedish-run ski lodge breaks the mold in many way, with its casually cool design ethos, excellent New Nordic cuisine, friendly powder-hound staff and reasonable rates.
Rooms are simple but stylish and on-site Brasserie Konrad (run by chef Hasse Höglund) doles out extraordinarily good grub (some grown on the premises no less) for a great price — the three-course skier’s menu is a steal at CHF57.
Obviously, access to Engelberg’s famed off-piste skiing and snowboarding is easy, and the lodge is mere meters from the town’s train station. If you need to relax, check out the modest on-site spa and sauna, or the recently revamped bar.
Discounted rates apply outside the high season.
