Located at the Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens, the planetarium is home of the Cosmic Skydome, a 12.5-metre-diameter projection dome.
This is the highlight of a visit to the planetarium. Shows include a full-dome, immersive presentation – lie back in a big comfy seat and gaze upwards – and finish with a guided tour of the Brisbane sky, when the astronomer will point out planets, stars and constellations which will be visible that night. Shows run for about 40 minutes.
The theatre used digital multimedia systems that present real-time digital star shows and computer-generated images using a Ziess star projector. Most shows are not suitable for children under 6 – but there are a few special shows designed for younger ones (check the website for details).
Entry to the planetarium is free, but you need to buy a ticket for the Cosmic Skydome shows.
