It might be easier to get lost in the wilderness of Scheels than in a real wilderness. The massive 220,000-square-foot building is part outdoor retail store and part amusement park. Aside from selling gear for wilderness adventures – and college football tail-gate parties – the North Dakota-based retailer has a 65-foot Ferris wheel, 16,000-gallon saltwater aquarium, shooting gallery, deli and simulators for basketball, baseball, football and hockey.
Scheels is an anchor store in Shiloh Crossing, a high-end shopping area in Billings’ burgeoning west end that has siphoned some business away from downtown and the older Rimrock Mall. Highlights at Shiloh Crossing include movie theaters, restaurants, a candy store and a women’s shopping district.
