Santa Cesarea Terme, on the Adriatic coast, is Puglia’s main thermal spa town. The thermal waters are believed to have therapeutic effects when put on the skin. There are thermal bathing pools as well as rocky beaches accessed by stairs from the town built into the cliffs. The turquoise blue sea along the coast here is great for swimming.
During summer season, groups of Italians come to bath in the thermal waters but other than that it’s a pretty low key resort town, a good place to get off the beaten track. There are a number of hotels and spas in town and the architecture is an interesting mix of Moorish and Norman styles.
