The island of San Salvador, Bahamas, is known principally as home to Club Med Columbus Isle. But outside of resort confines, its reputation for diving and old Bahamian ways blossoms. Be sure to either rent a car or bike from the resort or take the Follow the Steps of Christopher Columbus Excursion around the small 12 x 5-mile island. On the way, discover amazing hidden beaches such as Broad Bay, climb the Dixon Hill Lighthouse, travel through small settlements, and of course visit Landfall Park. This is the spot where Columbus is said to have made his first landing in the New World. There are a also couple of no-frills diving resorts and a B&B on the island for those who eschew the all-inclusive lifestyle.
