This Kansas City classic was first stirred up in Clara Stover’s kitchen in Denver, but the family relocated here in 1932 and then Russell got the credit. He is also credited with inventing the Eskimo Pie, btw.
North America’s largest manufacturer of boxed chocolates has its headquarters on the Country Club Plaza, but to see a demonstration of the hand-dipped process that makes this such a yummy treat, you need to visit the Merriam Kansas store.
Russell Stover makes 26 million pieces of candy a year, so every time you take a bite, you’re helping out a hometown company. Clara and Russell Stover have a room in their name at the Southmoreland Bed & Breakfast Inn.
Russell Stover was purchased by Lindt Sprungli of Switzerland in 2014, but the company headquarters remains in Kansas City.
