Royal Exchange Hotel

The Royal Exchange Hotel – or “The RE” to generations of Brisbane students – was built in 1886 and is listed on the Queensland Heritage Register.

The RE’s popularity with students is largely because of its proximity to the University of Queensland, but it’s also a favourite watering hole by office and retail workers in Toowong, as it’s right in the heart of the local shopping precinct.

Drinking here, especially on “Uni Nights” (Wednesday night and Sunday afternoon/evening) is not for the faint-hearted. There’s live music and DJs and the place goes off! The most popular place to drink is in the beer garden out the back, which has live music five times a week and giant plasma screens showing the latest sport.
The pub featured in the 2007 film All My Friends Are Leaving Brisbane.
