Rocks Discovery Museum

Birthplace of modern Australia

Housed in a restored 1850s sandstone warehouse this modern museum focuses just on The Rocks, from the early days of the foundation of the colony through to the outbreak of the bubonic plague in 1900 to the Green Bans of the 1970s that preserved the demolition of the historic area from developers.

On display is a collection of artefacts found in archaeological digs and some fascinating archival film footage.

There’s also a range of activities for kids, like hunting for artefacts in the museum displays.

It can be a bit hard to find – it’s in Kendall Lane off Argyle Street.
