Whether you go to view enormous fireworks displays, which are reflected in the river, the massive opening parade that occupies downtown streets for hours, or to participate in one of many public athletic competitions, you’ll find it all at Riverfest. Wichita’s biggest party and summer extravaganza fills 10 days in early June, with a dizzying array of activities for every age and interest, and locals have put this popular event on their calendars ever since the 1970s. Hundreds of thousands of people descend on food booths offering everything from chicken on a stick and soft funnel cakes to freshly prepared limeade and cool ice cream. Festival admission buttons also grant entrance to dozens of music performances held in two venues, including symphonic, country, rock and many other genres. Check for next year’s dates and details, each spring.
