In Glacier National Park, Rising Sun Campground fills up fast. Due to its location, it is the closest campground to Logan Pass. Campers can quickly hop a shuttle or drive to the pass to hop on trails before the crowds arrive.
Located on the east side of Going-to-the-Sun Road, the campground spreads around a hillside perch. It has more than 80 first come, first served campsites that open mid-June through mid-September.
Amenities include drinking water, fire rings, picnic tables, flush toilets, campground hosts and ADA campsites. No hookups are available for RVs; in fact, smaller RVs only can squeeze into the campsites. The Rising Sun Campground Amphitheater hosts evening naturalist presentations.
Adjacent to the campground, Rising Sun has a camp store with convenience groceries, showers, motel, cabins, and restaurant. A shuttle stop allows for catching free buses to trailheads, Logan Pass or St. Mary Visitor Center.
Across the Sun Road from the campground, a trail runs along the shore of St. Mary Lake between the picnic area and boat launch. Adjacent to the boat launch, boat tours depart for a scenic ride to Baring Falls. A 10-mile round trip trail goes from Rising Sun to Otokomi Lake.
