Ripley’s Believe It or Not!

The world is strange, and this museum proves it

This Ripley’s Believe It or Not! museum is housed in a “cracked” building–a visual statement about the 1812 earthquake in New Madrid, Missouri, which reached 8.0 on the Richter scale and reportedly made the Mississippi River flow backwards for three days. It houses oddities from around the world, optical illusions, and world records, with artifacts ranging from the bizarre (like the two-headed calf) and the creepy (the shrunken head) to the just plain sad (the world’s tallest man, who was 8’11” and died at age 22).

It goes without saying that kids are drawn to Ripley’s like moths to a flame, and as the museum’s website says, after visiting here “your relatives won’t seem so strange anymore.”
