More than 20 restaurants dot a series of small shopping malls along a 1-mile stretch of West Sand Lake Road and Dr. Phillips Blvd. not far from International Drive. Locally known as Restaurant Row, many of the eateries have full bars, extensive wine lists and live music. A notable number have won major local and national awards.

And they cater to a wide variety of tastes and ages, as these examples demonstrate. Sand Lake Road is off I-4 at Exit 74A. Turn onto West Sand Lake Road and drive west away from I-Drive.  It’s best if you know where you want to dine since the location of some restaurants do not stand out.

Bosphorus Turkish Cuisine is a family-owned Turkish restaurant that has won an impressive number of local media awards. It serves such regional classics as  hollow bread (lavas), hummus, hand-carved lamb sis kebabs, a mixed grill of doner kebab with chicken & lamb adana kebab plus chicken & lamb sis kebab and chicken & lamb köfte. Chatham’s Place, open since 1988, specializes  in fine seasonal continental cuisine spiced with many herbs, vegetables, and fruits from the chef’s organic farm. The extensive wine list also includes selections from small wine vintages.  Open only for dinner, the limited entrees include Italian, seafood, chicken, duck and steaks.  Located at 7575 Dr. Phillips Boulevard 32819;

Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar is locally famous for its  fine aged prime steak and unique takes on  fresh seafood, chops, sides and salads.  A nice feature is The Fleming’s

Christini’s Ristorante Italiano  is nationally known for its outstanding food and attentive service. Recipient of numerous national awards, the privately owned restaurant features Northern Italian cuisine with seafood pastas, lamb, steak and veal entrées, some going back to when the restaurant opened in 1984. Many rate Christini’s as Orlando’s finest Italian restaurant. 7600 Dr.

Seasons 52
offers lower-calorie entrees, appetizers and desserts with its 120 wines. Also an entertainer at a rotating piano who serenades diners and bar patrons. Located at 7700 West Sand Lake Road, Orlando 32819; (407) 354-5212.

Mama Louise is a casual, authentic Italian restaurant where chef Joe Esposito uses his family’s recipe book for such dishes as Mama Louise’s stuffed chicken and zuppa di pesca along with many standard favorites. Moon Fish is part of the chain that also owns the Charley’s Steak House and FishBones franchises. In addition to seafood and steaks, Moon Fish  also features sushi. Located at 7525 West Sand Lake Road, Orlando 32819; (407) 363-7262
