Restaurant Alma has been an acclaimed Minneapolis restaurant for years and racked up numerous James Beard awards. But recently, chef-owner Alex Roberts completely reconfigured his restaurant. He added an adjoining cafe and bar and a cozy seven-room boutique hotel above it all.
Alma’s dinner-only restaurant features a three-course, prix fixe menu. That includes five modern American dishes to choose from in each course. First course favorites may include soft egg and caviar atop potato puree with black truffle vinaigrette and bison tartare with pear and chili aioli. The middle course presents a variety of pasta and grain dishes. Finally, the entree choices may include, for example, poblano-crusted sturgeon, pan-roasted chicken, seared sea scallops, braised beef and duck breast. All three courses offer vegetarian options.
The Nordic modern cafe and bar hum from sunup to sundown—and beyond. Diners will find Alma’s more casual side with fresh baked pastries and egg and meat dishes for breakfast. Midday brings gourmet sandwiches, burgers, salads and soups. Dinner features small plates, pasta and grain dishes, meat, seafood and succulent sides. Or, just sit at the cafe’s long curving bar and sip one of its signature cocktails.
Whether you’re an out-of-town visitor or a local on an overnight getaway, Alma’s seven chic rooms over the cafe provide the perfect place to stay. Alma is close to the Mississippi riverfront, the University of Minnesota, walking paths, nearby bike rental and convenient access to downtown.
