Red Ridge Ranch is the place to go for an authentic horseback riding experience. A real ranch in the scenic Wisconsin countryside, horses quietly graze in the paddock, kittens tumble at your feet and plump chickens scratch in the dirt.
Owner Cindy Kanarowski welcomes guests to stroll through the tidy barn and pet the animals. You can even bring your own apples and carrots to feed the horses. Treats are also available for purchase.
Red Ridge Ranch’s standard one-hour trail ride takes you through 250 acres of scenic woods, farmland and the picturesque Lemonweir River. The horses are well-trained,and guides will let you try trotting for a while. Repeat guests can request their favorite mount.
The stable runs numerous special events, such as summer day camps, haunted hay rides and sleigh rides.
Every Thursday night from May to September, starting at 5 p.m., the stable hosts gymkhana competitions, which test the skill of horseback riders via contests involving barrels and poles. Anyone can watch for free; food is available for purchase.
