R Place might look like nothing special, but looks can be deceiving. If you ask locals where their favorite place to dine is, many will tell you it’s R Place.
The restaurant specializes in Northern Italian fare. It’s pleasantly decorated inside, although a bit dark. The menu offers a nice selection of pasta, not surprisingly, but also carries items like pepper steak, chicken marsala, pork chops vesuvio and vegetable rotini. Seafood and veal are also on the menu. The “kids’ menu” = $3 off pasta dishes.
Dinner starts with wonderful, warm bread (unlimited quantities), followed by a shared salad. There’s often homemade minestrone soup. Entrees can take a while to come out, but they’re fresh and tasty and definitely worth the wait. Meals are followed by a dish of sorbet.
Service is good, and chef/owner Don Rich often pops out of the kitchen to make sure everything is all right.
The one disappointment? The restaurant’s wine list is quite small and unspectacular. For an Italian restaurant, that’s a shame.
