Here are a few favorite Provincetown Art Galleries to get your juices flowing =>
The Schoolhouse Center for Art and Design (508-487-4800), 494 Commercial Street. This venture features four galleries, among them the Schoolhouse Gallery, with contemporary photography, paintings, and sculpture, and the Art Strand Gallery (617-834-4794), with contemporary art made by a dozen Provincetown artists.
William Scott Gallery (508-487-4040), 439 Commercial Street. This venue showcases contemporary art and preeminent regional artists like John Dowd and Will Klemm.
Rice/Polak Gallery (508-487-1052), 430 Commercial Street. I always enjoy this gallery. Marla Rice, who assumed sole ownership in 2005, represents more than 40 contemporary artists working in painting, photography, assemblages, graphics, and sculpture. Biweekly exhibitions feature the work of two or three artists; the gallery offers art consulting, too.
Julie Heller Gallery (508-487-2169), 2 Gosnold Street. In a little beachfront shack, Heller offers work by luminaries who established this art colony, including Milton Avery, Ross Moffett, and Charles Hawthorne.
Berta Walker Gallery (508-487-6411), 208 Bradford Street (between Howland and Cook streets). This excellent gallery represents Provincetown-affiliated artists of the past, present and future.
