Prospect Park’s Long Meadow

Sprawl out

This is not just an optical illusion–it’s a physical and spiritual one too. Architects and urban planners have written books about the ability of the park’s original designers Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux to take an already big space (90 acres) and make it appear to go on forever. You could spend all day strolling the gently curving paths that track this green space that stretches from Grand Army Plaza to the bandshell at Prospect Park Southwest. You’ll find kids playing catch, friends playing football, and lovers on picnics any time of year as long as the sun is out, but the summer months when the dense foliage hides all traces of urban life beyond the park’s boundaries are ideal.
