Covering nearly 5.5 acres, the Portland Japanese Garden is a combination of five gardens, with exquisite plants, arranged stones and restful pools. Visit the gardens of Chisen-kaiyui-shiki (Strolling Pond), Roji-niwa (Tea); Shukeiyen (Natural), Karesansui (Dry Landscape Garden) and Hira-niwa (Flat Landscape Garden). Even the tool sheds are works of art.
Guided tours are offered daily, April through October at 10:45 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
The Garden is located in the west hills of Portland, directly above the International Rose Test Garden in Washington Park. Parking is usually full, so take a Red or Blue line MAX light rail to the Washington Park stop (aka, the Zoo) and then take a free Explore Washington Park shuttle to the Garden.
