Poncho’s opened in 1972 as a small take-out restaurant serving meals from one pot of red chili and one pot of green chili. Today, it’s a local favorite. Even President Clinton stopped by to eat when he was in town in 1999.
The restaurant offers traditional Mexican dishes in a casual environment. Most entrees range in price from $6 to $9, and most portions are large enough for two people to share. If you’re really hungry, order the La Fiesta Chiquita President’s Choice. The meal commemorates President Clinton’s order: two tostadas, two chimichangas, two tacos and two corn tamales.
For fun, request the president’s table. If you’re willing to wait–and depending on how busy they are, it could be a long wait–you can sit at the table President Clinton sat at when he was there. There’s even a likeness of him painted on the wall.
