Playalinda Beach is located adjacent to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Space Operations. As a result, it can be closed at any time due to shuttle activity or security concerns.
Driving the Playalinda section, you won’t see the beach or the ocean because of plant-covered dunes lining the coastline. The 5 miles of paved road has 13 parking areas with boardwalks to the beach and limited restroom facilities. You need to bring your own food and drink and any other needed supplies because nothing is available here.
Surfing and surf fishing along with swimming and tanning are Playalinda’s official attractions. However, despite the signs stating that nudity is illegal, there usually is little enforcement of that ban. That’s why parking area 13 is usually the most crowded. People who want to bare it all park here and then walk a quarter or half-mile north to more remote areas where families and children rarely roam. Out of sight, out of the need for enforcement.
Schedule of events and tours
Pets are allowed on the lagoon-side of the park, but must be kept on a leash. Pets are not allowed on the beach.
