After Vichaya Bunyaketu finished her studies at the Cordon Bleu, she opened her own restaurant, just down the block from her mom’s place. Both are in big, rambling houses with leafy gardens and enjoy a loyal following among those who work in the neighborhood. But the similarities end there.
The original Rosabieng, across the street from the Samsen train station, has been serving Thai classics for years. Platform 1 takes French and Italian recipes and incorporates crucial Thai basics like chili and lots of garlic. The Spaghetti with Italian sausage, balsamic and basil has Thai chilis that are fried and roasted almost deep red brown. The potato soup references vichyssoise, and like that classic when it’s made well, this one manages to tame the creaminess and remain light.
Platform features a wine of the month that is sold by the glass. On one visit this was Orvieto DOC Toscana Rosso. They have wines by the bottle, too.
