St-Jean-Cap-Ferrat is the home of the rich and famous. One such celebrity to live here was the Movie actor David Niven (1910-1983).
Niven was famous for his urbane and witty personality which he used to great effect in a series of Hollywood films.
He purchased the beautiful seaside villa, ‘Lo Scoglietto‘, as it used to be known from the great Charlie Chaplin in 1960 and lived here for the rest of life, mingling with the Riviera social set which in those days included Princess Grace of Monaco.
After a major refurbishment the house is called ‘La Fleur du Cap’ and in season is resplendent in bougainvillea. You can walk past the villa if you stroll along the Promenade Maurice Rouvier from Beaulieu-sur-Mer. After a few hundred meters you will come to the Place David Niven and the house is on your left. The front façade of the villa, which has its own small harbour, can only be seen from the sea and the small island just along from the house is known as David Niven’s Island.
While visiting the Cap be sure to visit the fabulous Gardens of the Villa Ephrussi-de-Rothschild.
Note: La Fleur du Cap is privately owned and there is no public access. Please respect the privacy of the owners – in France privacy is taken very seriously.
