Once the home of Waite Phillips, oilman, Villa Philbrook was the family’s fabulous, Italian- Renaissance, country estate. His children used to roller skate on the third floor. Now, thanks to his generosity, it is a wonderful art museum – the Philbrook Museum of Art – with extensive gardens and one of the best museum stores in town. The eclectic collection ranges from African and Asian art to European, Contemporary and Native American pieces. A modern addition to the museum adds more space for special exhibitions.
The La Villa Restaurant is open for lunch and for Sunday brunch. Reservations are suggested – especially for the Sunday brunch.
Philbrook Downtown is an added, off-site bonus. Located in the Brady Arts District, it features works from the Native American and Contemporary collections plus temporary exhibits. A single ticket is good for same-day use at both sites.
