Well known to locals, Penny Cluse Cafe is one of the more popular sports for breakfast within Burlington proper, so be prepared for a wait. But there’s a reason so many folks are willing to put in the time, as Penny Cluse consistently makes one of the best breakfasts around. For starters, the biscuits in herb-creamed gravy are delicious, as is the ‘bucket of spuds.’ For the main course, try the Zydeco breakfast – eggs with andouille sausage – or the breakfast club sandwich. And while it’s primarily known for its breakfast menu, the lunch is just as good. Try one of their outstanding sandwiches accompanied by a fruit smoothie.
If you want to avoid the wait, they do offer a take-out menu; call 30 minutes ahead, grab your food and find a nice spot outside to enjoy it. (While it’s tempting to try their adjacent sister restaurant, Lucky Next Store, as there’s
usually not much of a line, if any, the food there doesn’t quite live up to fare at Penny Cluse.)
