When you’re driving down Melrose and someone hollers, “There’s the Blue Whale!” don’t worry, you’re not sitting next to a color-challenged Captain Ahab. They’re pointing out the Pacific Design Center (PDC), an eye-catching seven-story building clad in blue glass designed by world-renowned architect Cesar Pelli. The PDC houses 120 art & design showrooms set around a 1.4 million square foot campus on 14 acres.
Visitors will find plenty of rotating exhibitions of architecture and design, The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA); two Wolfgang Puck restaurants; the SilverScreen Theater, and the Blue Conference Center.
There’s usually metered street parking available, but if you’re planning on staying awhile there’s a parking garage with an entrance on Melrose Avenue, just east of San Vicente Boulevard.
The PDC is the site of the annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party, a fundraiser bringing in millions for the Rocket Man’s foundation.
